At Film.caKIDS’ Filmmaker School, students work collaboratively to learn and create different aspects of a short film.

We offer various streams of educational classes to provide students of all grades with the opportunity to grow their skills. New programs are added each session.

Our qualified adult instructors bring enthusiasm and a love of film – both behind the screen and in front.

JR & SR FILMMAKER SCHOOL

JUNIOR FILMMAKER (grades 1-8)

WINTER 2018 – Runs Fridays & Wednesdays
CLASSES START: January 11th & 16th
LAST CLASS:  March 27 & 29
(No Class: Feb. 15, Mar. 13, Mar. 15)
  • 1.5 hour classes
  • 10 weeks per session
  • Red Carpet Showcase night (*exact date/time confirmed by week 3 of classes)
  • $260/student per session

Each session of Junior FilmMaker School focuses on hands on learning, while encouraging collaboration, imagination and creativity as we work with our young filmmakers to create a quality finished product as a team.

During the 10 week course, participants will create original scripts & storyboards, learn and use proper filmmaking terminology, and have hands on time with various pieces of video-making equipment – digital cameras, professional lighting, green screens, editing software, etc.

Showcase Night: Each session will host a “Red Carpet” screening. This fun evening allows our students the opportunity to invite friends and family to celebrate their project on the Big Screen. This will be a 30-45min event, and will include all Winter program products.

   Junior 1 (Grades 1-4)

  • Beginner Level – all students of this grade should start at this level
    • In this beginner level students are introduced to storytelling basics and the foundation of film making
    • Students interests and individual experience levels are built upon throughout each session, and advancements are made as students are ready.
  • COMING SPRING SESSION: Intermediate Level – students graduate from beginner to intermediate level with instructor approval
    • Our intermediate students build off the basics and begin to use more advanced techniques and equipment

   Junior 2 (Grades 5-8)

  • Beginner Level – all students of this grade should start at this level
    • Continuing to build on filmmaker knowledge, students are introduced to 2 camera set up
  • Intermediate Level – students graduate from beginner to intermediate level with instructor approval
    • Intermediate students experience expanded options with the introduction to the moving camera; while continuing to perfect earlier techniques while

 

While each filmmaking experience is unique, we aim to have approximately 75% spent on the filming process, and 25% hours spent editing as a group.

We guarantee a maximum of 7 students per instructor for greater individualized learning.

This academic course is for the budding, enthusiastic Junior FilmMaker in your family. Students should come ready and willing to work as part of a team as they learn the very basics of filming and editing.

 

SENIOR FILMMAKER (grades 9+)

WINTER 2018 – Runs Saturdays
CLASSES START January 12th
LAST CLASS: April 6th
(No class: Feb. 16, Mar. 9, Mar. 16)
  • 2 hour classes
  • 10 weeks per session
  • $260/student per session

Our Senior Filmmaker program is entering it’s second Session and is a great success! It provides an opportunity for our senior students to learn and practice the industry standards of filmmaking. While working collaboratively on and off set, this program introduces more individualized learning depending on personal vision and interest.

Our senior filmmakers will explore screenwriting, directing, cinematography, and editing using professional, industry approved technology.

 

At the completion of the Session, all students will have access to their final movie as an online download.

Each session will also host a “Red Carpet” screening to allow our students the opportunity to invite friends and family to celebrate their project on the Big Screen.

Note: Professional Filmmakers take years to hone their craft; please have realistic project expectations of this 11week course.

 

EDITOR SCHOOL

JUNIOR EDITOR (grades 5-8)

  • 10 weeks per session

Our Junior Editor School provides opportunity for hands on learning using industry standard software. After learning specific techniques, our students are encouraged to realize their individual visions to achieve stated goals.

During the 10 week course, participants will use Film.Ca raw footage to create original and varied finished products that showcase their skills.

BRICK ANIMATION (grades 3+)

Each session of Brick Animation school focuses on hands on learning, while encouraging imagination and creativity.

During the 10 week course, students will create original scripts & storyboards, design and build sets and backdrops, and learn to use film making equipment with the goal of creating a short stop motion brick animation film.

While each session will collaboratively create 1 main short film, students will have the opportunity to also work on their own individual brick animation creations throughout the 10 week period, utilizing some of the theory and techniques learned in class.

 

Back Next Spring:
ACTING SCHOOL

JUNIOR ACTOR (grades 4-8)

BACK for SPRING SESSIONS
  • 1 hour classes
  • 7 weeks per session
  • $225/student per session

Our Junior Actor program allows students the opportunity to practice with experienced actors, while being introduced to acting skills. Introduction to scripts, stage vs screen acting, audition skills, and more will be looked at.

During this 7 week course, each student will receive a personal monologue to work on and perfect. A final “performance night” will be scheduled to allow each actor the opportunity showcase their skills.

NOTE: each session will be slightly different as we will work to cater to the interests and strengths of our students.
